Biggest Mistakes Buyers Make
Not having a buyers agent
or assuming that when they view a particular home the Realtor they are with represents them. Ask for an Agency Disclosure whenever you meet a new Realtor. They are supposed to automatically give you one-it's the law.
Not having a pre-approval in hand
and/or not knowing what they can afford. Your total housing costs will include principle and interest, taxes, insurance, and condo fees if it is a condo. Read more on pre-approval letter here.
Bringing children along during weekend property viewing.
When you are out for a full day of property viewing it can be too much for your kids to behave that long. It ratchets up the stress levels on the parents too. Home Shopping Tips here.
Dragging family members
and friends who aren't going to live with you along during the home shopping process. There is plenty of time to bring along parents, friends, etc. when you have narrowed down your search to two or three homes. That is what second and third showings are for. Family members and friends get bored with you house searching process and they will inadvertently start making hints or putting unseen pressure on you to make up your mind faster.
Communicate and ask questions
of your spouse or significant other early so you have a better idea of what they like. Don't assume your mate wants the same things you want in a house.
